David Ramsay (1749-1815), a South Carolinian, published in 1789 a two-volume work, The History of the American Revolution. He also compiled The History of the Revolution in South Carolina (1785), The Life of George Washington (1807), and the History of the United States (1816-17), all three of which titles were known to have been in the Dialectic Society library prior to 1830 (Bahnsen 61).
